Assigning Resources to Summary Tasks? Can/Should you do it

I have a project with sub projects. The PM and RM assigned the the summary
task to a resource. The task was updated by the resource in PWA, however,
all the tasks below are at zero and they are wondering why? I think I found
out. The question is: Should a summary task be assigned to a resource ever?

Hi Brad,

Please note, resources should never be assinged to summary tasks for exacly
the reason why you have the problem. How should Project now which lower level
task has been updated?

In theory it would be great if we could set a rule that automatically
updates lower level tasks based on summary tasks, but Project Server does not
allow for this.

Please make sure that all of your resources are always assigned to a lowest
level task.
