Assigning Tasks Problem

Our office is attempting to assign tasks, however, when we assign tasks to each other only an email is sent. The accept and decline buttons are not present. Suggestions on how to fix the problem??

Are the button visible when you use the Preview Pane? Also does the icon in
front of the task display as a task or as a mail? I assume you are using an
Exchange server?

When a task is assigned and the email comes over, there is an attachment. When I open the attachment it just states my email address and the subject of the task. But still no buttons to accept or decline. I am not sure i understand your icon question, when the email comes over it is shown exactly as if it were a regular email, unlike when an appointment comes over it has the appointment icon. And yes we are using an exchange server. Does this create a problem for using the assignment of tasks????

What happens when you assign the task to yourself? Also how does the item
show up in your Sent Itmes folder?

No, the Exchange server should make it even eassier. What are your exact
steps when creating a Task Request?

Outlook will not allow me to assign a task to myself. I could possible be assigning tasks incorrectly. I am assigning tasks by both the task asignment in the task section and by task request section. I input all the information regarding the task and enter the email address of the person who is responsible and then send it.

Sounds correctly to me. You (or your administrator) might want to check
whether you are connected correctly to the Exchange server; by means of the
Exchange service and not over POP3 or IMAP.

Could you also mention the version and servicepack level of Outlook you are
using and on what operating system? Also what version of Exchange are you
using? Am I correct when I say that everyone in your environment has this
issue?

It appears that the email accounts are set up correctly. How should they be set up
Service pack 2, Outlook 2002, Windows XP, not sure on the exchange server. And yes everyone is having the same problem.

If they are setup by means of the Exchange service it should be OK.

I'm using Outlook 2003 here and I killed my Exchange server last month (to
install a preview edition of the next Windows version named Longhorn) so I'm
not able to set all modifications I can think of at the moment. I'll try to
look into it tomorrow at work where I've got Outlook 2002 SP2 as well with
Exchange 2000.

One thing you could try is disabling your virusscanner and it's integration
with Office/Outlook. This could prevent you from receiving this specially
formatted mails as well.

I hope to provide you with an answer tomorrow!
