Attachments won't send

I have used Outlook 200 for many years but have now
installed it on my laptop running XP home.
When I try to send an email with a word document as an
attachment the document is attached to the message.

But the recipient does not get it and the paperclip icon
does not show on the sent items page.

Can anyone help me.
