You can insert AUTHOR, CREATEDATE, and SAVEDATE fields in your document, but
AFAIK there is no such field for "edit history." This is not something that
is maintained in Word.
However, I have seen a process where you can open the
document with all the history, when it was created, the
author, number of revisions, last save date etc. and I
can't remember how it was done.
It was not recover text, It was something to do with the
way the document was opened. Once opened the document
would look normal, however at the bottom of the document
was a complete history listing all the document
properties.
What you are looking for is the Document properties, under Tools ->
Options -> Print (in my 2000 at least)
