"Authorized" copying of Office

T

Tim B.

The EULA for Office XP prohibits unauthorized copying of
the program. Is there any way that a person, in my case, a
seller on Yahoo Auctions, would be authorized to copy and
distribute Office? Reading the Office XP Resource kit at
http://www.lborosu.org.uk/staff/manuals/OfXPResKit/appndx/e
ula.htm tells me that "If You licensed the Software from
Microsoft, You may reproduce and distribute an unlimited
number of copies of the Software provided that each copy
is a true and complete copy, including all copyright and
trademark notices, and is accompanied by a copy of this
EULA." Does this actually apply to Office XP, and how
would I know the seller is licensed from Microsoft?

That applies to the Office Resource Kit. It is offered freely on Microsoft
Office Site. It is not Office. If you really want to know what you are and
are not allowed to do, or how to tell if something is too good to be true,
then check http://microsoft.com/piracy.

If you think that someone can make and distribute unlimited copies of
Office, why would any one pay for a copy, let alone Microsoft require
product activation?

You may make ONE copy for your personal backup. Any other copies that you
make are illegal - selling them makes you a pirate.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Tim B. asked:
