Office XP Standard Volume Replacement Media

B

BrownLumber

I've broken (snapped in half) my Volume Licensed Disc for Office XP Standard
edition. I did contact Microsoft for replacement media and they advised me
that they have discontinued that version. While my license/key code are still
valid I have no disc now. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement
media kit for Office XP Standard (Version 2002). The disc has the "Not for
Retail or OEM Distribution" on it. I've done some checking online and have
thus far drawn blanks....Any thoughts?

If Microsoft doesn't have it, you're pretty much out of luck. About all you
can do is to try something like eBay.

I figured as much and if the OP can find it on eBay, I hope he's real
careful about making sure it's not some pirated version.

Doesn't matter as long as his key is genuine.....it's the key not the media
that's important...(apart from pirated versions having nasty software on the
CD....)

B

BrownLumber

I've done an exhaustive search on ebay and elsewhere and I'm having zero
luck. I can't use the educational disk with an Volume License, so I think
I'll have to pony up some cash and get an updated office version for the
company. Really disapointing.

These are the reasons that cause reasonable people to get their "hate on"
for Microsoft. I have a legitmate, valid license but they won't send me a
disc to go with said license because their of their EOL Support policy. I
don't want support, I just want the media, you can't tell me that there isn't
a media kit kicking around campus there somewhere for this version...Very
frustrating....

Anyway, sorry about the rant, it was my fault to begin with which is why I'm
so frustrated...Lesson learned, make backups and don't be stupid with the
handling of your media...

thanks for the forum...

Sometimes we learn lessons the hard way.

Have you tried posting somewhere (please don't ask me where) to see if
anyone has a volume license and would be willing to burn you a copy of it?
As long as you use *your* product key, it would be legal....or at least
close to legal.

Well, I don't really know where to ask that question and really, who truly
believes what's posted on an internet board anyway? I suppose I could set up
an "auction" on ebay of sorts...That seems pretty shady and suspect to say
the least.

Is it simply the Media disk you are missing? If your Organizer is intact, there
is no reason you cannot download media from the Office site. The clipart is the
same.

In doing various searches online I found someone who can offer me an "ISO
Administrative Copy"....he explains:

"it's an 'administrative copy', therefore no
limit on the number of installations - it doesn't need a cd key to install,
it can be installed using whatever user name you want and will accept
updates for as long as they are available."

This seems highly shady to me, does anyone know about "Administrative
Copies" of MS Office? Is there such a thing (legally) or is this pirated
software that he's trying to sell me?

I'm leaning against this option as my instincts are telling me stay away...

The Media Disk has its own setup. One can insert this disk and install the
Organizer and the clipart without having to install the other parts of Office
XP. There are instructions on how to install the media here:
How to add clip art to Clip Organizer in a 2007 Office system and in Office 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/897754/en-us

As near as I can remember you did not need a product key to install the media.

I'm not looking for the "Media Disk". I'm looking for the install disk. When
the term "media" is used it often refers to a collection of discs...Sorry for
the confusion

The Media Disk has its own setup. One can insert this disk and install the
Organizer and the clipart without having to install the other parts of Office
XP. There are instructions on how to install the media here:
How to add clip art to Clip Organizer in a 2007 Office system and in Office 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/897754/en-us

As near as I can remember you did not need a product key to install the media.

I thought so, but wanted to confirm that with others.

I'll keep looking, thanks...

That is pirated, illegal software.

: In doing various searches online I found someone who can offer me an "ISO
: Administrative Copy"....he explains:
:
: "it's an 'administrative copy', therefore no
: limit on the number of installations - it doesn't need a cd key to
install,
: it can be installed using whatever user name you want and will accept
: updates for as long as they are available."
:
: This seems highly shady to me, does anyone know about "Administrative
: Copies" of MS Office? Is there such a thing (legally) or is this pirated
: software that he's trying to sell me?
:
: I'm leaning against this option as my instincts are telling me stay
away...
