auto fill underline

Word apparently has a function that when you start to underline using
shift+_ you only need to make a short line and then hit return for it to
auto fill across the page.

My question is: how do you get rid of them once they are there?

Also, sometimes a second one will appear where I didn't put it when using
page breaks?

any advice out there?

Those lines are borders. Ctrl-Q will usually get rid of them (by
resetting the paragraph formatting to what's specified by its style),
or you can go to Format - Borders and Shading.

See http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/CantGetRidOfLine.htm for
more about this *very* frequently asked question.

The line becomes a paragraph border. Try format->paragraph->border to
delete it.
