Auto send / receive

Downloaded updates for outlook 97 from MS and installed
them. Now the program doesn't check mail automatically,
only when asked to do so.

Any ideas? The autocheck box is ticked. I have unticked
and then reticked it, and have changed the time periods...
all to no avail.
