autocorrect stops working

Occasionally, I notice that Auto-correct stops working in Word. The problem
is only solved when I shut down all Office applications, then restart Word.
When I shut down Word, I also notice the it saves my normal.dot, even though
I am unaware of any changes I have made. hmmm

Thanks

Did you try deleting normal.dot? Word will make a new one next time you
start the application.

This has fixed a number of "weird" issues for me in the past. It might seem
like normal.dot gets easily corrupted for some reason, although I haven't
encountered this since, as far as I can recall, OfficeXP was released.

It is never advisable to delete normal.dot, because doing so will
also delete macros, autotext, formatted autocorrect entries,
custom styles, and custom toolbars. It is usually sufficient to
close Word and rename normal.dot to something else, and Word will
make a new one when it is started again. If the new normal.dot
works better, then you can copy customizations from the renamed
normal.dot. If the new normal.dot does not work better, then you
can delete it and restore the old normal.dot.
