Automatic link update not working

I am using Publisher 2003 to present info from several
tabs in and Excel 2002 workbook, but everytime I change
the data in the Excel workbook, Publisher does not
update.
I have checked the links section, and its set to
Automatic. Toi get publisher to change, I have to go to
links, and select/updated each entry, then ok.

What gives?
