Automatic update for Auto-Text in Footer

In a template I created, I used the filename and author
autotext in the footer. When I access the template and
create a document I can update the filename field by right-
clicking on the filename field and selecting update field.
When attempting to update the Author field using the same
method the word "default"remains. How do I update this
field without manually keying in text? (I am not trying
to be lazy, but in a large document with many section
break it would be handy to know how to do this.)

Is this in PowerPoint or in Word? I don't recall a filename field in
PowerPoint...
