AutoUpdate not finding updates

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I'm setting up a brand new MacBook Pro that's running 10.5.8. I installed Office 2008 from the disc and ran AutoUpdate from the installation wizard. It checks and comes back that there are no updates. The disc I have only has 12.0.0 versions of all the apps, so there are at least 3 updates it should find. What gives? I've checked permissions already. I've rebooted several times.

Why would AutoUpdate not work on a brand new computer with a first-time install?

If all else fails, you can go to Mactopia's "Downloads" page and download the updates that you need. But, I would say the same thing that CyberTaz said which is that the autoupdater might need updated itself first.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, the answer isn't that the Updater needs updating. It's already at 2.1.1 and there isn't a amore current version available.

I know that I can download and install these manually, it's just more convienent to use AutoUpdate and I wondered why it wasn't (and still isn't functioning). Especially since it's a fresh install on a brand new machine.

Has anyone else had issues with AutoUpdate not finding updates when it should?

It has been reported on this list. You might find reading the messages in
Entourage easier than using the Mactopia interface to this newsgroup.

The MAU requires Rosetta. Did you install Rosetta?

If you use a newsreader rather than the Mactopia interface to this newsgroup
you can download old messages and search for answers. If you are not
familiar with a newsreader, Entourage's basic newsreader already has the
Microsoft News server included. All you do is subscribe to the newsgroups
you want. See this article for help subscribing using the Entourage
newsreader:

Thanks Diane. Rosetta is built into OS X (since 10.4, so yes, it should be installed.

What I find very odd is that AutoUpdate worked fine up until these last few weeks. I've only noticed it with the past two machines (which I installed last week), but I never had issues with it before these two. Two separate machines, one brand new - the other reformatted, AutoUpdate reports there are no upates when there most defintely are some.

Thanks for everyone's help, I guess I'll just rely on manually updating machines from this point forward.

There was a change in the AutoUpdater right after Office 2008 came out. The
original was a VISE installer and had to be updated to the package
installer. Until it's updated you will not see any new updaters.

Check this file after updating to 12.1.0 to be sure it is version 2.2.0.

Download link for MAU 2.1.1 (this should allow you to get the AutoUpdater
for it and all other Office applications)

Microsoft's not showing the 2.2.0 as a standalone that I can find.

I stumbled across this thread while doing some research. MAU is updated to
version 2.1.1. I downloaded it from Mactopia, because using the MAU itself
showed the need for the update, but after downloading it and requesting my
password, it searched for updates again, without installing. It doesn't show
any other (and/or more recent) updates, and I've read there's a 2.2.0 out.
I'd just like for it to work the way it's meant to.

Thanks in advance for your support!
