Lots of things come into play here. The bottom line is, the CD can't move
data nearly as fast as a hard disk can. What to do about it? Shrink the
avi with better compression (wmv?), or reduce other things (animations)
happening in the presentation. Many times it's better to have a slide with
the video and nothing else.
