B2TR Printing Issues

D

Doting Daddy

No matter what I try, I cannot get any document to print (whether Word, Excel
or Outlook) without the program failing, reporting back in to Microsoft and
restarting.

I have a Windows Vista RC1 box and the printer is a Dell 3000cn.

What am I doing wrong? Can I uninstall the technical refresh?

M

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

No, you can't uninstall the TR (read the release notes?) so you have to uninstall all of Office 2007 to get rid of it.

Having said that, since this has only been out a few hours, wait to see if it happens to others (I am in the tech beta and will know). In the meantime, if using older printer drivers, try updating them.

Release notes? I guess you expect me to ask for directions when I'm lost
driving, too.) I'm a man, darn it!!!!!!

I read the Release Notes after the fact. I'm going back to my documents now
to save them in 97-2003 format.

I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling. Thanks for the snappy reply.

HAHAHAHA! I wonder if anyone has done a survey yet of who uses the GPS in the vehicle more, men or women? And who asks for it as an added feature?

Have you verified that the printer is switched on and you can print to
it from another application (e.g. notepad)?
If you make a different printer your default printer and then open Word,
it shouldn't crash anymore. Can you then switch to the printer inside
Word and print to it?

1. The Dell 5100cn Network printer works fine with other applications
2. As long as it is not the default printer, Word runs fine
3. When I switch to this printer inside Word, Word stops working

Microsoft has been able to reproduce the issue and is investigating it.
If MS finds any workaround, I'll post it here.

I did not have this problem before installing the technical release. Seems to
me MS is to blame, but we are left waiting...

I have installed a "pdf-printer" (Cutepdf) and use this to printing from
Office. As I said, all other applications work fine!

All I can say is that it's not too uncommon for printers to have issues
with Word. Word might not look like it, but it actually demands a lot
from a printer. So it's one of the programs where a not perfectly
written printer driver can get in trouble.
In this particular case, MS did look into it and determined that it's
not Office and not Vista, but the printer driver. There is still no
update on whether Dell will provide a fixed driver for RTM.
You could just save the files directly into PDF from Word. To do that,
install the MS pdf add-in (link on my B2TR page, or in office button
menu, save as, pdf) and then use office button menu, save as, pdf.

1. The printing problem does not seem to be an exclusive "Word" thing. All
Office B2TR applications (Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Outlook, Onenote,...)
stop working when I try to print to my Dell 5100cn network printer.

2. Office Beta 2 2007 worked fine with my printer. Problems only started
after installing B2TR

3. Vista RC2 (5744) applications like Wordpad, Notepad and IE7 work fine
with my printer

Could it be that B2TR messed up something?

is with the printer driver.

I did not have this problem before installing the technical release. Seems
to
me MS is to blame, but we are left waiting...

I have installed a "pdf-printer" (Cutepdf) and use this to printing from
Office. As I said, all other applications work fine!

:

Use a different printer is all I can tell you right now. I don't know of
any workaround.

I run Vista RC2 and Office B2TR with a Dell 3110cn on IP. Have this
exact problem.

1. The Dell 5100cn Network printer works fine with other
applications
2. As long as it is not the default printer, Word runs fine
3. When I switch to this printer inside Word, Word stops working

:

Have you verified that the printer is switched on and you can
print to
it from another application (e.g. notepad)?
If you make a different printer your default printer and then
open Word,
it shouldn't crash anymore. Can you then switch to the printer
inside
Word and print to it?

Same here, I have a Dell 5100cn. That's a colorlaser to.
Probably same driver?

:

No matter what I try, I cannot get any document to print
(whether Word, Excel
or Outlook) without the program failing, reporting back in to
Microsoft and
restarting.

I have a Windows Vista RC1 box and the printer is a Dell
3000cn.

What am I doing wrong? Can I uninstall the technical
refresh?

I guess you need to wait for new drivers...

Thanks for the tip!

I installed the new firmware. I don't know what it does but it does not stop
the B2TR problem.
B2TR apps still refuse to work with my Dell 5100cn network printer...

There is a firmware update on the Dell web site with an August, 2006 timestamp.
It may help.
