Backing up Outlook Express

D

Darrell

I have attempted many file saving options to save my e-mail folders and
address book. As stated I have many saved files from different dates. Is
there anyway to merge these folders into one useable folder to revive old
folders and messages?
I have attempted exporting these files, saving them with various backup
programs etc. but have never been able to make these files work when I have
had a system melt down or a hard drive crash. All my current backup folders
that appear intact from different dates are in the .dbx format.
If there is a program I can buy to rebuild these files it would be worth it.
For future rebuilds, is there a backup option that does work? Some of the
..idx and .mbx files that Microsoft says need to be copied also can not be
loacted on my hard drive.
Thanks for all that reply.
One extra question, is there anyway as system administrator to my home
computer, to change the default log-on from "New User" at the log-on screen
to something else? The person who rebuilt the computer used that as default I
guess.
Thanks

Try posting this in an Outlook Express news group - this is not one of them.
Outlook is a part of Microsoft Office and is what this group supports.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and has its own news groups.

I attempted to do this, except there is no group I can find that addresses
Outlook Express questions, just Outlook. If you can direct me there I would
be glad to post there to avoid your "head scratching". I tried to describe
the problem and steps I had taken in as much detail as possible.

I never use the lame web-based interface to newsgroups, but inspired by
you challenge, I went to
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx and had
a look. In a matter of a minute or two, I discovered that clicking the
plus signs in the left-hand panel in from of English, then Redesigned
List, then MSN and Internet, then Outlook Express, then Outlook Express
6.0 and Previous Versions gave me a choice of seven OE-related groups. If
I knew anything at all about the site, it might have been quicker. One of
those will probably fit your question.
