Backward Compatibility and Possible Issues

Hi

I have a question regarding Backward Compatibility within Power Point. I
have been told to "go and take tables and charts from old reports" and there
have been many times when I do I have been unable to make adjustments and so
I go to make a new table, chart or whatever.

The information is not what is needed it is the layout of the chart or
table. When I bring in anything I insert it into the PPT, I do not copy paste
I learned that lesson already=)

It has been suggested that I must be doing something wrong and it should
work. Well it doesn't work all of the time, some of the files I am to take
stuff out of is from 1999 to present I think some files may even been older
than that. I have no idea what version of Power Point they were originally
done. I also suspect that there was a lot of copy and pasting going on and
not inserting of files. If it was an imported table or chart the original
document was done in was not saved with the files.

Are there ANY issues with Backward Compatibility and Power Point?

Can there be issues when bringing in information from old files?

Is it better to recreate the table or chart either in Power Point, Word or
Excel and have a clean file?

When importing a chart or table either from Word or Excel should the
original always be saved to make the changes on and for future reference, 5
years down the road?

Should you need more information I will respond promptly.

Any and all comments are truly appreciated, and needed.

Thank You
I have been reading a lot of information from that site. The problem comes
in when trying to explain to others and consistantly being told my old people
did it with no problem. So I thought possibly asking a few direct questions
and getting an answer to them might help. This way I could print out the
answers from the PPT Gurus.
I truly appreciate all the advice and I spend many hours reading the posts.
Thank you
MJ
