Barstyles - Tasks and External Tasks

The External tasks seem to inherit the text (right,left etc.) from the settings in the Tasks Bar Style.
Is there a way to make them independently controlled?

Thanks

John,
Well sure, just select the external task and go to Format/Bar, just like
you would to customize the visual characteristics of any selected task.
Or, you could simply set the default bar style for external tasks to be
whatever you want.

Thanks, I don't get it
Barstyles - > Tasks (the first one)

Show for .... Tasks = Normal

on the TEXT tab I have

LEFT = Name
RIGHT = Remaining Work

Barstyles - > External Tasks (near the bottom of the list)

Show for .... Tasks = Extenal Tasks, Not Milestone

on the TEXT tab I have

LEFT = <nothing>
RIGHT = <nothing>

The External Tasks show

LEFT = Name
RIGHT = Remaining Work

If I specicaly add
LEFT = Resource Name
RIGHT = Duration

for example to the External Tasks Text tab.
Those values are supperimposed over top of

LEFT = Name
RIGHT = Remaining Work

??????

Thanks

John,
Wow, you're right, I never really played with it that much. Off hand I
can't explain what is going on but I do have a workaround. Try using a
spare flag to identify all external tasks (yeah I know, this is
redundant with the External Task field but stay with me here). Then set
up a custom bar for all the external/flag1 tasks. Finally, for the
Normal task bar set the "show for..." to be the following:
Normal, Not Flag1

If I have time I'll play around with it some more and try to figure out
why it does what it does. Maybe it's a bug that no one ever noticed or
bothered to report.

Thanks for the insight on the Show for....Tasks usage.

Very helpful.

You're welcome. Sometimes you just have to make the mountain come to you.
