BCC issues for Gmail account using Entourage

I am a Mac user using Entourage 2004. I recently switched my email to
a Gmail account. I've discovered one problem that I can't seem to
rectify. When I email myself or when I BCC myself on a message sent
from Entourage (which I do quite often), the message does not come
back into my Entourage inbox. If I send the message from gmail thru
the gmail site, there is no problem.

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me out, suggest certain
settings that I need to correct perhaps.

I am using Mac OSX 10.4.11
Entourage 11.4
2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

If you need more info, please let me know.

Hi

There are currently a few issues with the BCC field when using Gmail IMAP
accounts in Entourage 2008, so 2004 may have similar problems. In 2008 the
BCC'd recipient will get the message, but the Gmail account does not know it
sent mail with a BCC since Entourage handles the outgoing options. Entourage
2004 not sending the message at all I'll have to try reproducing myself.

One possible fix: Gmail automatically stores sent mail to the server, and
recommends that you disable the option of having your mail client attempt to
do this
(http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892&ctx=sibling),
which is under the account settings in Entourage and enabled by default.

Disabling this means the message should still appear under your IMAP Sent
Items folder once it syncs with the server. It will also appear in your
local Sent Items folder, because Entourage is now storing outgoing mail
there. This option might fix the problem with not receiving messages BCC'd
to yourself.

If this does not work you can reply here in the Newsgroup and we can try to
find another option.

Thanks,
Todd

Do you have Gmail set up as POP or IMAP?

I've run into this problem in my Gmail POP account.

I've had the same problem with not receiving my own emails. I had problems
with both the Gmail and Comcast filter blocking mail from me!

Log in to webmail and set your spam filter to filter nothing or allow
messages from your own account.

I appreciate the replies. Basically, I have POP and IMAP enabled
because I want to get my emails both thru Entourage and my iPhone.
To overcome the problem of emailing myself, I changed my Account ID in
the Entourage client to recent:[email protected].
In terms of other settings in Entourage, I checked to leave a copy of
the message on the server so I would get messages on both Entourage
and the iPhone. I also checked to delete the messages after 30 days.
In the Gmail POP settings, I changed the setting for "when messages
are accessed with POP, archive Gmail's copy"

I am using Entourage as my main client for storing of messages but I
figured it would be nice to see all my most recent communications if I
am accessing Gmail thru a web client outside my home computer.

All of this fixed my problem except it created one new problem, every
time I send an email from Entourage, the email is sent to my inbox
regardless of whether I cc'd myself or not.

So Todd, if you can follow what I'm saying and have any further advice
on settings to rectify that, please let me know. Perhaps the true
answer is that if I'm going to use Entourage as my main client, I
either have to deal with all messages showing back up in my inbox or I
have to forgo being able to access all my messages in Gmail once
they've been downloaded.
