Gmail Sync with iCal and iCal sync with Entourage

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop I have Gmail set up to sync with ical and I have ical set up to sync with Entourage. If I manually enter events in ical it shows up in Entourage and vice versa, however the events that get updated in ical from Gmail show up in iCal but do not update and show up in Entourage.

Calendars checked in iCal are:
-Entourage
-www.google.com: "myid@gmail".com
-Deligates: US Holidays
Does anyone know why only the manual entries in ical show up in Entourage and why the Gmail updates show up in iCal but not in Entourage?

Any iCal calendar that syncs to Entourage needs to be named Entourage.
Your gmail calendars aren't and they won't sync to Entourage unless
you rename them Entourage but you'll break your link to gmail.

Entourage cannot sync ical calendars as categories unfortunately. Some
products such as Contactizer Pro can but it has a ton of sync issues
(so too does Entourage and just so you're aware of them do a scan on
the forum for sync services and workaround).

Kerry,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Based on what you wrote, I guess there is no solution at this time.

I don't use googlel calendars so I don't have a solution for you. I
live in Entourage. My roommate does use Google calendars however I'm
not quite sure why as he's a grad student and his calendars are only
for himself. He only uses iCal and lives in that and loves it. He's
seen what I do with Entourage and he likes how I use it in my research
but he has a different approach than I do to research.

I don't think you should be thinking of add-ons or anything to solve
this. My suggestion would be to use iCal for the stuff you want in
Google and Entourage for the way you use that. I only suggest people
use Entourage if they are using its advanced functionality of links,
categories, projects and SQL like searches. If you're not using any or
all of those then switch to iCal. Its more efficient and stable than
Entourage. If you were using say an older version of Exchange than
2007 you'd have to use Entourage if you were in an Exchange
environment. Otherwise, you can even now use the Apple apps for
Exchange.

That requires CalDAV support (which Entourage doesn’t have).

Use the Send Feedback command in the Help menu to let MS know how much
you care about it. It helps them prioritize Feature Requests,

Kerry,

Thanks for the additional information.

The only reason I was using Entourage is that I have a MacBook and was syncing my Palm Treo 650 with Contacts, Calendars, Notes and Tasks. This worked sorta ok; however, I have upgraded to a Motorola Droid and was trying to sync the same items with my MacBook. The Droid is the only reason for going through Gmail to sync with iCal, however you must be online to work with Google Calendars and I travel and don't always have internet access. Earlier I had Outlook on PC's and never any problems syncing my phone either off-line or on-line. Now with the MacBook and Droid, I probably need to rethink this.

The bottom line is all I am trying to accomplish is to sync the MacBook with the Motorola Droid.

Gottcha. OK, first I think you can take Entourage out of this picture
as this is unnecessarily complicating things and I didn't hear one
reason you need it (there are lots of issues with Entourage and if
you don't need it don't use it).

I know little of Android but have been, of course, reading a lot about
it and I think (might absolutely wrong) it doesn't sync through sync
services. So sync with Google calendars and let those sync to iCal. My
roommate does this and I've looked at his setup and he has perfect
sync between iCal and Google calendars.

Now on direct Android sync with the Mac I think my suspicions are
right. Go to Markspace.com who makes the Missing Sync software. They
have an Android product and there they say Cal, task and notes sync
are coming soon to their existing product. Missing Sync will allow you
to sync directly with your Mac. I use it for my Palm TX (for over 2
years and its excellent) and my iPhone (excellent) and have also used
it when I had a BlackBerry (excellent). This is the best of the best
and Markspace provides very, very good support. This product is what
you need and once the get those other pieces in place you'll be very
happy.

Honestly, the iPhone is the best integrated with the Mac as one would
imagine. There are couple of things I miss with my BlackBerry like the
physical keyboard and visual and auditory alerts but I could not do
with it what I can with my iPhone and the Mac. I can sync any product
on the market that provides sync using Apple's Bonjour network. This
would be one downside to Droid. Otherwise, Android is the only thing I
think that will give Apple a real run.

Kerry,

Thanks. Yes I agree, Missing Sync appears to be the solution for me. I will wait for Missing Sync to come out with Cal, Notes and Task for the Droid/Mac sync.

BTW, I have experience with the iPhone and belive me, the performance of the Motorola Droid is much faster and surely will give Apple a run.
