Being asked to Save Template

I'm creating a new document from a template.

The template has a single mailmerge field in it.

When I close the document I'm being asked if I want to save changes to the
template.

Any idea why?

There are no styles in the template

There are styles even if you didn't create any. Word is built around
styles.

Another possibility is that the mailmerge database link in the template is
faulty and is updated when you establish such a link in your document.
