Bombarded with Phony Email. HELP!

S

Sandra

I am being overwhelmed with hundreds of emails every day
that "appear" to be from Microsoft concerning upgrades,
patches, etc. I am aware of the virus going around on
phony MS emails so I immediately delete them, but HOW can
I stop this nonsense in the first place?

I get all this phony stuff, and yet my friends tell me
that their emails to me have been returned for various
reasons. What's going on here?

I have run 3 different virus checkers and my system is
clean.

Thanks for your help,
Sandra

It is indeed the virus Swen here. Somewhere your e-mail address became
available to the Internet and got harvested.

The fact that messages from your friends bounce is probably because your
mailbox is full of virus messages. See if you can set a serverside rule to
delete the message upon arrival. For this you'll need to go to your webbased
mailclient provided by your ISP. If your ISP doesn't have a webbased
facility to set rules you'll need to contact them and ask them whether they
provide another way to block these messages.
