book publishing 2

tolga

hi there
as I have applied the suggestions made by gerard , I saw that I could not
succeed in publishing the units of work to web access
then
I have created a new global template for the book publishing process, in
which there are such columns as >
= total page numbers
=number of pages written
=number of pages left

I have entered necessary formulas and added the identicators column as well

what I need is
1=to publish these fields to project web access exactly as they are, at the
moment I only see the default view of web access
2=to make these fields vieweable and editable in the tasks page of web
access to make my resources enter the pages they have done so far. It is a
bit hard to enter the % of work done, so I would like my resources to update
the fields I have entered
3=to track the process in the gantt chart as well

I need urgent help,

could someone please help me?

I'd urge caution with the approach you're taking. Project is essentially
work SCHEDULING software and that implies time. Writing 20 pages is not
"work" as Project and the discipline of project management uses the term. A
person spending an 8 hour work day working full time on writing 20 pages
does 8 man-hours of work. % Complete refers to duration - after 2 days of a
5 day task it is 40% done regardless of the output. After 20 man-hours of a
40 man-hour task has been worked, it is 50% Work Complete regardless of the
number of pages produced. Unless you can equate "pages" to "man-hours" is
some concrete and invariable relationship so you can say for all writers on
all projects 10 pages output equals 1 man-hour of work, I'm aftrid that your
approach will lead you into problems even if you do resolve the issue of
publishing those fields in Server and PWA. Jusy something to think about...
