Book recommendatiom, please

Jim R.

I have been using FP for two years and need to learn about databases and
some beginning programming in order to make any progress with my company.

I know a very little about asp.net and that is the direction I have been
told to follow. I am sure many, many people have already done this and so am
looking to use their experience in recommending a book to get a newbie
started down the right road. Thanks!

Hi Jim,
I've recently started moving from "classic" asp to asp.net myself. The
resources that helped me most were aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com (especially the
general type articles about what asp.net is how it fits in etc) there's also
a good book chapter on the site that explains data access with asp.net
http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/chapters/ASPNET/
well worth a read. The official MS site is excellent (www.asp.net) Once
you've grasped the basics I'd suggest downloading their sample storefront
app here
http://www.asp.net/Default.aspx?tabindex=5&tabid=42
and studying the code it's an excellent learning aid. Don't know about you
but I find the best way to learn is to analyze existing code - there's
plenty of that on asp.net.

Hopefully this will get you started
