myuser

Hi
I have created 3 different budget resources and assigned them to Project's
Summary Task. The problem is that I am not being able to assign cost/work
info to my budget fields. Feilds are disabled.

Please Help

Hi myuser,

A Summary task summarizes the data of its Tasks. Thus, you cannot enter
data into calculated fields. What do you mean by a budget resource?

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Budget resources can be created in ms project 2007. These resources are
assigned to project's summary task and can later on be used for comaprision
with actuals. Option to create a budget resource is available under resource
information dialog box.

You have to enter the relevant information in the Budget Cost and Budget
Work fields, not the Cost and Work fields. Hope this helps.

Interesting - I haven't got round to that nuance in Project 2007 yet!

There should be fields called "BudgetCost" and "BudgetWork" etc. Are you
trying to enter the data in these fields, or in the "regular" cost/work
fields?

I am trying to enter values in budget work and budget fields. But these are
disabled.

Hello Myuser,

Pardon for jumping in here. Are you attempting to add the Budget Cost
in the Gantt chart view or in the Task Usage view?

Once you have assigned the budget resource to the Project Summary task,
display the Task Usage view. You should see the assignment row (in
italic) for the budget resource underneath the Project Summary task row.
Add the Budget cost field to the table and add the cost amount to the
*assignment row* Budget cost.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hello ArturoP,

You don't go in to details about how you have used the budget resource
so just for a quick check:

1) Create the resource as a *work* resource (not cost) and click the
Budget checkbox in the Resource Information dialog box.
2) Show the Project Summary task (Tools > Options, View tab.)
3) Assign the Budget Work resource to the Project Summary task.
4) Display the Task Usage view.
5) Add the Budget Work field to the task Usage view. (Insert > Column)
6) Enter the budget work in the Budget Work field at the assignment row
(represented by the Budget Resource's name.)

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
