How do I change the baseline of a bullet? (When I make a bullet a higher % of the font it's no longer centered vertically)
Thanks

If you're Scaling the bullet character you must be getting into the Format>
Font - Character Spacing dialog. There's another setting there for Position:
which allows raised or lowered in .5 point increments - the spinner arrows
only increment in whole point values but you can type 1.5 or whatever
directly into the value field. Be aware that Word's typography tools are not
the most accurate in the world, but you should be able to get what you need.

Incorporating that attribute in a Style is the best practice, of course :)

Oops! A bit earlier than I thought & the coffee hadn't kicked in yet :-} PPt
doesn't have that setting - I had Word in mind.

In PPt I don't know of any way to make that accommodation. I'm afraid you'd
have to improvise by creating the effect you want elsewhere & converting it
to a picture of some sort. Then use the picture as a Custom Bullet - all of
which would be very time consuming & tedious but possibly still not giving
you the desired effect.

Another alternative that "may" work - I haven't tried it - is to create the
bulleted list in Word using the suggestions in my other reply. Then
copy/paste to your slide. Of course, that's a lot of pasting if there are
more than a few slides involved.

In that case the Insert> Slides From> Outline File might be something to
experiment with, but again, I've not used it for such a purpose. It is
normally used to create slides based on outline level styles in a Word
without any bullet/numbering formatting. Might be worth playing with.

Again, sorry for the erroneous information earlier.

PowerPoint 2008 seems to do fairly well with aligning text to the baseline
of picture bullets - much better than what it does with character bullets.
It's not too hard to create a custom bullet and then bring that into the
presentation - all without leaving PowerPoint. (CyberTaz was on the right
track...)

I tried the following steps to create a well-aligned custom bullet, and it
worked for me:

1. From the Drawing toolbar, select the shape you want to use as a bullet,
and draw it on an empty slide, to the size you prefer. (It doesn't have to
be a drawing shape - it can be text, a photo - anything.)

2. Do a right-click on the shape, and click on Save as Picture. Save the
bullet shape picture to a convenient folder.

3. Going back to your bulleted text, select the bulleted text, and select
Format - Bullets and Numbering from the menu.

4. Under "Custom Bullet", click on the spin box, and choose the picture
bullet you selected in step 2. (Make sure that the bullet size is set to be
"100% of text".)

Presto! - your custom bullet should be applied to the text, and aligned
correctly in proportion to the line of text.

If you're feeling adventurous and know a little about editing images in a
bitmap editor like Photoshop, Pixelmator or GIMP, you can try cropping the
white space out below your custom bullet, resaving the image file, and then
reinserting it into your PowerPoint slide using the steps above. This will
get it closer to the baseline, as you need.

Hope this works for you...

Jeff

I haven't tried your suggestion yet but understand what to do - thank
you so much.
