Calculations within Project to determine task duration

Can someone help please. I am trying to use project to schedule work through
a machine. Specifically, I would like to enter the component "cycle time" in
one column, the number of components in the "batch" in another column and
have a third column calculate the task time to process the batch of
components through that machine ie the cycle time x the batch size = the task
time?

Thanks in advance - Mark

Don't entirely understand what you want to do, but if you want to extend
the duration of a machine cycle based on the number of components you
process through it, then you could add two columns for number fields and
record a macro which forms the product and then copies it into the
duration field.

Wouldn't it be just as easy to perform the calculation with a calculator
and enter it yourself, or is the number of components changing
dynamically, in which case the project probably isn't entirely well defined?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that. I am actually trying to use Project as a capacity planning
tool and thats why the "project is not well defined". I have possibly 6
different component batches of verying quantities each day through the
machine and thats why I was trying to avaid the calculator approach. I have
not used macro's in project before but I will give it a go. Thanks again.
