calendar email format

When I send and invitation from my MS outlook 2003 calander to people who do
not use outlook, the text that comes in to them is impossible to read as the
time and notes are mixed in with a bunch of headings. Is there a way to send
it so that people can read these meeting emails that are generated from MS
Outlook?

Thanks.

They would have to purchase and install Microsoft Outlook to do so.

You will need to send as .ics.

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

Is there anyway to add them as recipients in the calendar item and when it
sends it to them via email, have the format be ics? It appears I have to save
it as a file and forward the file to them. this is clunky.

I did simply save the calendar item, open it up and used Action/forward. But
this is just an email. Is there any way to use the Invite command and have
them get the email in the .ics format?

Open the meeting from your calendar, select Actions->Forward as .ics. It is
an Internet Standard that they should be able to read if they have a
calendar program. If they don't, don't waste your time.
