can i adjust the date shown when a schedule opens?

what governs where (along the timeline) a schedule is "located" when a
project file is opened? my intuition is that it would open centered on the
"today line", but experience shows that not to be true. trial and error
shows no discernible pattern. is it simply wherever the timeline was when
the file was last saved? is this a parameter that can be set?

thanks, rick

Rick,
I haven't studied this in detail but I believe this is what happens.
Generally, Project tries to show the start of the currently selected
task and appears to even show a few months ahead of that depending on
how much of the screen is occupied by the Gantt graphic itself. When a
file is first opened, the first line, which is normally a Summary Line,
is the active line. The Gantt therefore shows the start of the first
line. I know of no way to make Project open a file with any line other
than the first line active, unless the file was saved in a sorted view.

Regardless, it is quite easy to "adjust" the timeline. I have my
Standard toolbar include the "Go to selected task" icon. Then all I have
to do is select the desired task and hit the icon.

Hope this helps.
