Can I delete files from my CD-Rs?

I am very new to all this - I seem to be unable to delete them from the CD.
Can someone please advise how to do. - I am on Windows XP.

You can't delete them.

The only CD you can delete files from is a CD-RW (re-writable). A CD-R can
only be used once.
