Can I "hide" tasks?

Sally

In printing and reviewing Gantts, I have many tasks that are either not used
or completed. I would rather these task not be displayed to keep the Gantts
as simply and small as possible. Deletion is not an option for many reason,
one being the integrity of the outline numbers.

Can I 'hide" (e.g. Excel) tasks?

Hi Sally,

The Excel "Hide" feature is not available, but you can certainly filter them
out. You could use a custom field (or some other qualifier) that determines
whether or not to show the tasks in a view. Then, filter that view
(Project->Filter menu) and the tasks will not be displayed.

Also, you probably already know this, but you can select columns and hide
them.

Thanks for your help with this...however... ;)
when I filter I am presented with cutting or deleting tasks. Either one
ends up deleting the tasks and altering all the outline numbers.

I am trying to just hide tasks and maitain the outline integrity.

Any further assistance is welcome.

Thanks.

Sally.

Hi Sally,

This approach is exactly like hiding tasks, so what do you mean by
"presented with cutting or deleting tasks"? I have never seen MS Project's
filter function present a user with a requirement to cut/delete tasks. If
you can be more specific with the scenario, I can probably give you some
other ideas.

Thanks,

I finally figured it...

In the custom filter dialog window you are provided with buttons to cut,
copy or delete task. I thought you had to select one. Selecting nothing
simply hides the task.

Thanks ,

Sally.
