recurring task affect other tasks

Hi ,

I have a recurring task followed by many small tasks, all assigned to the
same resource. But Project GANTT chart show both recurring and the assigned
tasks running concurrently instead of breaking up the assigned tasks. SHould
it not realize the resource is "busy" during the recurring task?

What is best way to do this?

Normally one would set up a "4 hour" meeting to occur, we'll say, every
Friday morning, then as new new tasks are added, the duration would realize
Friday morning is not available.

Boyd,
The only way Project will "realize" a resource is busy is if you use the
Project's leveling function (Tools/Level Resources). Project doesn't
"know" that the 4 hour meeting takes precedence over other tasks, so you
have to tell it by setting task priority (Project/Task
Information/General tab). Then by using it's leveling algorithm, Project
can schedule tasks accordingly to prevent resource conflict.

You can read more about leveling in Project's help file.

Project will allow you to schedule any resource at any amount you like. It
does not rearrange and break tasks just to ensure a resource is not
overloaded. What you are asking for is very difficult to deliver given the
way project is designed. How would the tool know to schedule around the
meetings? Are they mandatory? What happens if you miss a meeting - does the
schedule get delayed?

Sorry to break the bad news, but Project is just not designed to do that.
