Can I install "some" Office 2000 components onto existing Office installation

Word 200x is often included in a Works or Works Suite program. If you don't
have the other components included in Office (any version), I strongly
suspect you have Works or Works Suite, not Office 2000.

If you want to use your Office 2000 program, it is advisable to uninstall
Word from the Works Suite (usually a separate item in Add/Remove), reboot
(to clear the detritus) and then install Office 2000. Uninstalling any
Office (Word) program never deletes your data but it is always wise to make
a backup in case something hurls.

In general, you should uninstall all Office and Works programs from your
PC before you use your Office 2000 Pro suite. I'm assuming you have a
valid licensed and working Office 2000 Pro CD. If so, uninstall what
ever bits of Office Dell put on there and install from your CD
(including putting Word back).

I don't know if there will be complications, they may have tied some
things into Works for all I know, that's why I hate PCs that have been
built by other people. If you get really stuck, there's always the Dell
restore CD, but you must back everything up if you use it.

Also bear in mind, Dell may refuse to support any program that did not
arrive with your PC.

Gerry and Milly,

Thanks very much for your info. I'll do as you say -- uninstall
existing Word and Works, reboot, then install my Office 2000 suite.
Sounds clean and simple. No worries anyway, I have a disk image (using
Powerquest Drive Image) of my current configuration if anything goes
wrong.

Thanks again.
