Can I sort contacts by 'date'? How can I add a date field?

F

frankieplus

I made a new folder for my business contcats and would like to sort these contacts only by date.

I can't find a date field in the contact form. Is there a way I can add a date field that I can use to sort with?

I have the contacts linked to an all day event in the calendar. I did this by going to 'contacts' in the calendar and linking it to the contact.

Better yet, can I make my own date field and call it 'Wedding Date'? (I do wedding photography)

Only reason I want to sort by date is so I can see which wedding is comming up and in order.

So far, am I doing everything right? and is this the best way to organise my wedding contacts?

What would be the best way to do all this?

Yes you can make a Wedding Date field and use it - that sounds like a good
idea!

Turn on the Advanced toolbar.
Change to Phone List View.
Click the Field Chooser in the Advanced Toolbar.
Click New on the Field Chooser.
Make a new Date type field. (if you stuff up that step, delete the field and
try again as Outlook will not let you make it twice with the same field
name)
Drag the new field onto the view - drop it beside other fields at the top of
the table, eg beside Full Name.
Now you can sort by this field.

You can make other fields eg date quote sent, date followed up, next step
etc and show them all on the Phone List table. You can also remove fieilds
you don't need to see - just drag them back onto the Field Chooser pop up
window.

Why not use the already-available Anniversary field?

Judy, while I got your attentiion on this thread.

( I know I should start a new thread )

In the names field, I usually have the bride's name and I basically make the bride the contact.

Then in the company field I have both the bride and groom's name.
So in company I might put 'Patricia & Jim' and the contact details are Patricia's. I use the notes section to put Jim's details. I want both their details but don't want to have 2 contacts for the same 'job'

I always refer to my busines contacts as such: 'Patricia and Jim', rather than just 'Patricia'. I know them as a couple, so my contact is really a couple rather than 1 person.

Do you think I'm using the contact form efficiently? Or should I go to the trouble to change the entire form and add fields for the groom as well?

that depends on how you use the data to communcate with them. Do you
mailmerge or email merge?

Hi Brian.

Sorro for the late response.

I just tried using the anniversary field but the problem with it is that it repeats every year.

I just want a simple date field that I can make so that i can sort my contacts by date.

Could someone give me some help in creating a date field?

I tried modifying the existing form by going into a contact, then 'developer' then 'design this form', but the form that comes up in the design view looks nothing like my default contact form first page!

Can anyone help me with this please?

I just tried this, great idea!

Thanks.

I made a field 'wedding date' in my contacts folder called 'Bookings'.

The way I understand it, this field exists only in the phone list view and only in the 'Bookings' contacts folder?

If I made another folder will I have the 'wedding date' field available to use again or do I have to repeat the procedure and make the field again for the new folder and so on?

To add the field in another Contacts folder, use the Field Chooser and set
it to User Defined Fields to find your field (I think it will be there).
