can no longer import web images

S

Sue

For four years I've had my 3rd graders design science
presentations, etc. I taught them to copy/paste, save in My pictures,
and drag photo across screen. This year I've run into problems
importing photos from the internet. Can't understand why. The first
time I encountered the problem was in our lab. I thought perhaps it was
because we had upgraded to PPt 2003, and there was a trick I didn't
know. Then, I thought that my upgrade of AOL and new machine at home
was the problem. ( At home I have 2000). If I hit Save as, I no longer
have choice of Jpeg- just bitmap or Art. No matter which I select, the
image doesn't appear in My pictures. If I copy/ paste, it appears to be
transferring, but nothing happens. If I try dragging screen to screen,
it gives semblance of transferring, but nothing appears. Am I losing my
mind?

For internet images I always right-click and choose SAVE PICTURE AS, the
image format is preset by what the its format is (.jpg, .gif, .bmp, etc.)
and you don't want to change it here, save it to any folder. Then insert
into PowerPoint as with any other image.

Hi Sue,

Cut and paste is dangerous in PowerPoint. Sometimes it works great, but
when it fails, it usually fails big.

The best thing to use (and to teach the kids) is to right click on the image
in the browser and save as an image on the hard drive as an image file.
Then use the insert image from the PowerPoint interface to add the picture
to the presentation.

I would also make sure, since you recently upgraded versions, that all the
SPs are installed. PowerPoint 2003 shipped with some issues that are fixed
with the SPs.

I would also make sure that you address the copyright law requirements on
using pictures from the web. As I am sure you know, use of the images, even
though they are on the web, is contingent on the authors permission. Just
because they can access it does not mean it is theirs to use.
