Can not get Entourage to send or receive messages

B

Brian Kaiser

Mac OS X 10.4.11

Trying to configure my Entourage as it is the better of my email apps.
Configured the regular Mac Mail email fine no problem, but would rather use
Entourage because of all it offers.

Keep getting an ''error description" that reads:

Error

Could not retrieve mail from the account

Explanation

Security failure. Personal certificate required.

Error: 2995

I need your alls help in solving this baffling problem so I can get on with
using Entourage as I had in the past on another computer.

This error is not listed on the Entourage Error Page:

I did a Google search and found a really old link you can check out, but
because it's so old and so many changes have been made, I'm not sure it will
help.

<brief excerpt> The problem is that Entourage is stupidly interpreting an
MTA saying "I
support client certs, wanna show me one?" as "I need a client cert, show me
one!"</brief excerpt>

My guess is under Advanced options you need to check authentication. You can
try a couple of things.

1) Open Apple Mail and view all settings. Take note of advanced security
settings. Re-enter the same settings in Entourage and see if it works.

2) Create a new Identity in Entourage and see if you can import from the
Apple Mail account. If the new Identity accounts will Send & Receive, then
take screenshots with advanced tab selected to see all settings.

Depending on how much work you put into your original Identity, you can
select to either edit the accounts or move into the Identity that has the
imported accounts that works.

FYI...most servers have updated for security updates and now require
advanced settings. Some require different ports as well. We have many of the
most common ISPs listed on the Account Setup page;

Hope this helps!
