Sorry, Milly but, for once, you're wrong. ;o) XP Home runs perfectly happily
on a 64-bit PC. How do I know? This system came with it (I have since
upgraded to Pro - I just couldn't afford it when I had the system built).
Athlon FX-55.

32-bit applications (and operating systems) will run perfectly on a 64-bit
system but, obviously, the reverse cannot be true. Obviously, to make the
most of a 64-bit system, you need an OS and applications designed to make
the most of it, just like you would with a multi-processor machine.

When the 64-bit version of XP is released I'll install it, but not until.
There aren't the drivers for my hardware yet.

But it runs as 32 bit - don't know why one would want to run 32 bit on a 64
bit capable system.

Does xp service pack two rtm work on it? Just wondered
Out of curiosity and if you want to tell. How much did you 64 bit
system cost?

Yes. There are no issues between SP2 and the Athlon 64 CPUs (at least not
the FX series). The basic unit? £2,000.

Asus K8SV
FX-55
1GB OCZ Registered PC3200
9800XT (best I could get at the time - the x800 didn't exist)
Sound Blaster Audigy ZS Platinum Pro
Plextor DVD Burner
Samsung Combi (DVD-ROM/CD burner)
2x15K 75GB Raptors (SATA in RAID 1)
1x250GB Caviar (SATA not in the array)
CoolerMaster WaveMaster case
500W Tagan Silent Power (and it *IS* quiet!)

It's an ongoing project - I want to mod the case (it's got blue LEDs at the
front, but that's it). I want to change the chassis panels to Perspex and
add some of those bubble columns as a temporary measure (CoolerMaster just
don't do Perspex panels for this case yet, and I can't find the columns in
the colours I want - pink, green, blue and purple).

I also have a set of Logitech Z680s on order.

I understand what you mean, Milly, but you said "no" which, to the OP, would
mean that it categorically would not run. I would be running the 64-bit
version - IF IT EXISTED. As it's still beta, I'm not.

One wouldn't but one has no choice... ;o)

I beg to differ with these answers. So my two cents worth (or is it 0.02
euros worth?)

1) I've been running Office 2003 on an Athlon64 3000+ since August with no
problems.
2) I've been running WinXP Pro on an Athlon64 3000+ since August with no
problems.
3) Assuming you build your own, which is actually quite easy, and recycle
your keyboard, monitor, and drives, $685 for a 64 bit box. That's what I paid
from Newegg for a case, cpu, 512 MB Hypernix RAM, and power supply.
4) If you don't want to build your own, then go to this link
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/DevelopWithAMD/0,,30_2252_869_875^10241,00.html and see what comes up.
