After reinstalling OfficeXP for Small Business Iam unable to access the help
files for the programs in Office XP (word, outlook, etc.) I have unistalled
and reinstalled to no avail. I do not have the problem on my laptop. I am
using WindowsXP hgome edition.
Any suggestions.

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319956 "The Answer Wizard and the
Help Index tabs appear blank when you use Help in an Office program" for
one possibility. If that doesn't help, then please elaborate on what
you mean by "unable to access". Do you get an error message, and if so,
what does it say exactly?

When I click on help I get the menu to ask my question. I type in my question "export?' Then I get a menu of possible sujects. It is when I cick on any one of the subjects that I get no response. I also get no response why trying to access help on the internet. I previously had Office 2000 installed on the computer and then upgraded to Office XP for Small Business. I read your reference but I am nervous about going into the registry and doing what it suggested. If I cra\eate a problem can I use system restore to get out of the problem? Thanks

I understand that editing the Windows registry can be a bit scary if you
haven't done it before. Yes, if something bad happens, you can go back
to a system restore point. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306084 "How to restore the operating
system to a previous state in Windows XP" for more information. If you
edit only the two registry keys mentioned in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319956 , the worst thing that should
happen if you do it incorrectly is that Office XP won't work, but
Windows and the rest of your programs should still be okay.

Based upon my elaborated explanation of the problem do you think that following the instructions to modify the registry is the most likely solution? What if I uninstalled Office XP and then reinstalled it in a new directory?
