Cannot delete a comment. Delete command does not work. Need help.

The right click on comment, delete, does not remove the comment nor does the
selection of the delete comment icon.

Perhaps the "comment" was entered as plain text rather than a comment? Or
perhaps the comment was inserted by someone else and the document is
protected in some way?
