Cannot delete an email

I am trying to delete an email that is in the Deleted
items folder and it tells me "Item canot be deleted. It
was either moved or already deleted, or access was denied."
Just an email from someone on our existing Exchange 5.5
server. I am using Outlook 98. It also shows it has not
been read, even though I have opened it.
