Cannot open newly installed Outlook

Hello. I used to have on my laptop Outlook 2003. But my brand new mobile
phone only synchronises with Outlook 2000-2002. So I uninstalled 2003 and
installed 2002(xp)
But when I open Outlook now, it says,
"Unable not open your default e-mail folders, Unable to open item. try
again".
It then says do you want to open system folders instead. So it opens with
'My Computer'. But I can't click on Calender or contacts etc.
Doesn't 2002 use .pst files? they are still there. Or does 2002 have them in
a different folder to 2003?
What if I wanted to start from scratch? it doens't let me even do that.
Pls help
What I thought was going to take 2 minutes has ended up taking all day!!

Hello,

Outlook 2003 has a new pst-format. You have to open the pst-files with a
Outlook 2003. Create with Outlook 2003 a new pst-file with Outlook 2000
format. Copy all objects to the new pst. Then you can open it with Outlook
2002 (XP)

Greetings from Germany
Frank :)

I don't know of anything offhand in OL 2003 that would prevent something
that synchronizes with OL 2002 from synchronizing with OL 2003.

Outlook 2003 uses a different format of PST that does OL 2002 and by not
converting your PST to the OL 2002 format prior to uninstalling, you've
destroyed your ability to access that PST. Reinstall OL 2003, convert your
PST to a 2002 format and then go back to 2002.

Thanks all.
Caramba! why does everything have to be so complicated.?
I have 2003 running on my PC (on the network) so I can use that pst to
convert for the 2002 and then copy it to the laptop right?
Also (BTW) could you please tell me the difference between the Outlook
folder in
\Documents and se~\Debs\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
and
\Documents and setti~\Debs\Local Setti~\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
or was that a really stupid question?

Samsung D500. Or maybe the support guy was trying to fob me off when I
called to find out why Calendar was showning on the PC sync program but
Contacts was greyed out.

If you have OL 2003 on a system, copy the OL 2003 format PST to that machine
and open it in OL 2003 with File>Open>Outlook Data File. Create a new PST
in the old formail with File>New>Outlook Data File>Outlook 97-2002 Personal
Folders File (.pst)>OK. Then, right-click and drag each folder from the
2003 PST to the new 2002 PST, let the mouse button go and choose Copy or
Move, depending on whether or not you wish to keep the original PST intact.
(Of course, you don't need to copy Deleted Items, since there'll already be
one in the new folder.) When you're all done, close each of the PSTs you
added with a right-click>Close on their roots and close Outlook. You can
then copy the 2002-format PST to the machine with OL 2002 on it, putting it
in any folder you want. If there's already a PST in that folder with the
same name, though, don't overwrite the existing PST. Finally, Outlook
(letting it open the system folders), click File>Open>Outlook Data File,
browse to the PST you created, select it, and click OK. Then click
Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next and at the bottom, change the "Deliver new e-mail
to the following location" drop-down to show the PST you added. Click
Finish, stop and restart Outlook, and you should be OK.

Perhaps the PC sync program is out of date or perhaps they're correct. I've
just never seen it. I did Google this phone and saw one review that said,
"D500 won't suit those who need full synchronization with MS Outlook they'd
better buy a smartphone." I also saw other reports that the sync software
(EasyStudio) isn't compatible with OL 2003. Samsung's site lists software
for the SGH-D500 (PC Studio) as being new yesterday. If that's the same
phone you have, see
