cannot run database message

I amended an existsing data base, which operates in two parts, data in file
contractsprod, forms, queries reports in file contractsapps. I created a new
table "Rebates" in contractsprod, copied it to contractsapps and linked them.
Created a sub form in an existing form and entered data. All worked OK.
Trying to open contractsapp today get the message "You cant run contracts
database unil you locate database contains Rebate" No, stupidly I did not
create a backup before adding the new table. Do usually and of course don't
find I need it! I can open contractsprod with the data in no problem. Any
idea what I can do now?

Are you saying you need something you don't have and can't find a copy of?
Did you check in both the databases you mentioned?

If you have checked, and if you don't have a backup, what were you hoping
we'd be able to do?

I know where the database is and the table is visible there. The second
linked database cannot open, that's the crux of the problem. Just wondered if
anyone knew how to open the apps file that says it cannot run ie how I could
effectively tell it the location of the file it couldn't find.

I may still not be understanding...

Have you tried opening the application into the database window and using
<File | Get External ... | Link...> and navigating to the new location of
the data?

That's the whole problem, the error message is preventing me from opening the
apps database.

Were I in your situation, I'd rely on a backup copy.

If I didn't have one, I'd make one before doing anything else!

Working from the copy, I'd try creating a new (empty) .mdb and importing all
objects.

If that didn't work, I'd try using the \decompile (undocumented) feature
(search on-line for "MS Access" and "decompile").

I'd also try using JetComp (again, a search should get you a link), but
again, only on a copy.

Good luck

Thank you. I have now found an old backup and restored but very grateful for
your assistance. I have learned the backup lesson!
