Cannot update without disk ?

Hi,
I am currently using windows ME, and when I bought the computer Office 2000 Professional was already on my PC.
I'm trying to update office from the microsoft website to SR1a. As I'm downloading the update It always asks me to insert the Office 2000 installation disk. I don't have the disk for office. I don't even have the Data1.msi anywhere on my pc
Is there any way I can update Office 2000 without the use of the installation disk
Thanks,

S

Hi, fcc0610,

The computer supplier who pre-installed the system should provide you disks.
Ask them. They are responsible for supporting the copies they install.

There is a utility that helps mitigate the need for installation media, but
it requires you to be at the SR-1a level.

Hi Susan
Thanks for the info. The place where I purchased the computer is no longer in business
Also I contacted my computers manufacturer, and they also told me to contact the place of purchase
Talking about being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
It seems Office 2000 Pro. is useless on my PC, because when I try to open an application within Office (word, access, powerpoint, etc.) It always asks me to insert the Office CD for update reasons.
Are there any other options, besides inserting the Office CD so I can have Office 2000 Professional fully operational again
Thanks,

I don't think so, but you could try contacting Microsoft to see if they'll
supply you some media:

Yes indeed, Susan
I spoke to microsoft any told me they don't carry Office 2000 CD,s anymore. They were more or less trying to push the later versions of Office.Right now I'm contemplating on whether to completely uninstall Office, for it is now useless on my computer.

Ugh! That is the first I have heard of them being out of stock on the
Office 2000 CDs. I know they stopped replacing Office 97 but Office 2000 is
still in supported mode so I am very surprised about this.

Any suggestions, on how to get Office running again
Office 2000 is useless without some sort of fix.

It is in the About's of the various apps. (veed to run one though, even the office shortcut)
I thought maybe the properties of the main executable, but not so far.

Definatly in the registry. (if you are still there, and reply) I'll look for mine

I have a similar problem (not as severe). Office Update page "wants" to apply security patches (5), and I can no longer access the install network share. (computer recently given to me, and forgot office CD's)

Did this Feb 10 2004 [835220] update help

It appears to me, it re-caches in a hash something that SR-1a leaves? I have Office 2K Pro (on Win 2K Pro), the office is at SP3

I was about to try it, but the disclaimers that it isn't really a by-pass for original CD (or maybe is, provided you did a certain steps along the way?

Even I have no CD (and can no longer access original Network domain share folder), this was always legal license. Now I am illegal? (I will be getting a new system sooner or later, and will need a new office to go with it, a little help now helps make that sooner).

The update kb835220 is valid only if SR1/SR1A is already installed. I have office 2000, no updates. When I try to update to SR1A it asks me for that CD.
The registry might hold answers, but I don't know how or where.
