Cannot view field codes

Even though I have Field Codes checked under Tools>Options>View, I am unable
to see the codes. Is it possible that my settings have been corrupted
somehow? Is there a way to reset everything to defaults? Please advise.

Are you sure there are actually field codes in the document? What types of
field codes are you expecting to see?

Yes - I should see field codes. For example, when I've inserted an image
with the Link to File option. I should see the 'IncludePicture.....etc.'
code. The codes seem to show for everyone else here (at work), and I know I
used to see them, so I was wondering if something in my setup became
corrupted. Where are these settings stored physically? Thanks for your help.

Field codes are stored in your document. You will not see a field code for a
linked graphic if it is wrapped. You have to make it In Line With Text in
order to see the field code.

That is the problem - I didn't realize the graphic format mattered. Thank
