Can't Edit Insrerted Object

Hi, i am using office 2003, i got a problem in word that when i insert any
object through Insert >> Object i can't edit it. for example if i insert
equation and then by double clicking i can't edit it.
How can i fix this problem?

Do you get an error message? If so, what does it say?

Related question: If you click once on the equation, what message
do you get in Word's status bar? (The status bar is the bottom of
the Word window.)
