Perhaps you could send the file to someone else with Publisher to see if
it's a lost cause.

I posted it here:

ftp://ddpftp:[email protected]/Publisher/

the file is 1.38MB but if anyone could help me I promise them a 6 pack
and the praise of my very PO wife, who's file it is, whilst it's me who
didn't back it up

If you tried everything then you have at least recovered some of the file.
This blurb works

1. Start Publisher, and then create a new, blank, full-page Publication.
2. Use the Text Frame tool in Publisher 2000 or the Text Box tool in Publisher
2003 or in Publisher 2002 to draw a text frame on the blank page.
3. On the Insert menu, click Text File.
4. In the Files of type box, click Publisher Files (*.pub).
5. Click your publication, and then click OK.

JoAnn,
This file will not open in any version of Publisher. I can see the preview in
Publisher 2003. I did use the following:

This worked. I recovered all the data in a weird sort of way. Of course the
pictures were gone, at least for me. You cannot use the recover text from any
file.

I'm at work with no access to Publisher. If I have the time this evening, I'll
see what I can do to get your wife un-PO'd. ;-)

Thank you Mary. I really hate not having Publisher in here. And there have
been a few times when I could sure use it. Instead I have to struggle with
Word or PowerPoint. Yuck!

yes, I was able to recover the text portion of the file...which
unfortunately didn't get me out of any trouble at all :)

thanks for the try,
Dave

You will have to reconstruct the file. I think if even if you had backed up the
publication you would have had problems. There is probably a corrupted image
involved somehow.

thanks, fortunately I know nothing about Publisher so the wife can't
make me do it :) And, btw a new 250GB backup drive with daily archival
backups is now in place...but, I'm still in hot water (sigh)
