Can't open Publisher 2000 files with 2004

I have searched these forums, without success to find a reason for why I
can't open Publisher 2000 files with my current Publisher 2003. The files are
created by our church secretary using Publisher 2000. The files are our
church newsletter, and I use them to update our website.
I don't have Norton Antivirus, and I have run the Detect and Repair from the
original instillation disk. But, I am still unable to open the files.
Any suggestions, since I don't have a copy of 2000, and the church doesn't
have a copy of 2003.

How were you given those files? Were they saved to a floppy or on a network
drive? What is the error message you got? Have you tried opening those same
files (not copies) in Pub 2000? Could they be corrupt?

Our secretary uploads the files to our website server in a folder I created
for her using SmartFTP. Then, I download them to my home computer. I thought
that might be a problem, corrupt files, so I downloaded them again at the
church and they opened on her computer with the Publisher 2000. Also tried
burning it to a CD and attempting to open at home without success.
When I attempt to open the file, Publisher opens, and a grey pop up box
appears that says, "Publisher cannot open the file". When I click OK, the box
and program close. Started having this problem in November, when I joined the
university and upgraded my programs to Office 2003 to match my office
computer. That's also when I started doing the website for the church.

Do you try to open the files from a disk? Have you moved the files to your local
hard drive and then tried opening them? Publisher balks at removable disks.

Are these publications converted to web page files?

It could be a driver issue, try opening the file in safe mode. Or use a
different default printer before opening the file.

I have received files that were created in 2000 that will not open in 2003, I
have never discovered the reason why.

Disable any anti-virus software, can you open the file now?
