Can't Read File

Cannot open any existing .ppt documents. Nor can I read
a newly created document. Opened Powerpoint is safemode
and still could not open existing .ppt documents. I've
uninstalled and reinstalled Office XP and the symtoms
still exist. I've started Windows in safe mode and
tried to open an existing .ppt document and get the same
symtoms ("Can't read xxx file").

HELP!!!

Are these files on your harddrive, or are they on a server or CD or
something? And, just to be clear, this is all PPT files, correct? Not
just a few specific ones?

What happens when you open PPT? Can you work on the new blank file
there?
