Can't register Office Suite programs. Won't accept Prod Key.

I just installed the Office Home and Student package. When I launch each
program (e.g. Word), as you know, it asks for the Product Key. When I type
in the Key as provided on the label, the system replies that the Key is
incorrect. Huh???

Should I try to register by phone, and if so, what number should I call? Or
is there a way around this? Thanks.

If your computer came with a free trial version of Office 2007 already
installed on it, then you need to uninstall the free trial software
before you install your purchased copy of Office 2007.

Garfield,

Your advice is similar to what I heard from the store. The difference being
that the bug apparently is caused by the trial copy of Outlook Express that
was included with this machine.

I've removed that, and will see if I'm able to register the next time I am
prompted to do so. Thanks for the prompt reply.

I don't believe there is any such thing as a trial copy of Outlook
Express, because it comes free with Windows XP and earlier. And even if
there were such a thing, Outlook Express is not part of any Office suite
and should not affect Office activation.

Garfield,

The quirky thing is that the store I purchased this computer from installed
Outlook Express. I'm wondering if that is causing my problem. I posted a new
message about this, but the short version:

I was able to activate something by calling the support number. But I still
get the prompt to type in my Product Key when I launch Outlook. So I wonder
if I need to totally scrap the folder I have with the Outlook Express
components, even though I don't think OE is active at all on my machine. Not
being a computer whiz, I'm really stumped on this. On top of that I have only
about four more uses of Outlook before it loses functionality.
