can't save word files

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

when I try to save a word file I get the following message "The save failed due to out of memory or disk space". However, when I check the space on my mac it shows only 25 GB used and 273 available. When I check the space on my external hard drive (where I was saving it to) it shows only 3.75 used and 462 available. HELP?!?!?

That's a wrong error message:

It actually means the save failed because Word could not write the file.

In the old days, the most likely reason was that you were out of memory or
disk space.

These days, the most likely cause is that you do not have file ownership
permissions for the file, or write permissions to the folder it is stored
in.

You need to use GetInfo to read the real permissions on that file to see WHY
you cannot write to it.

You may need to "Take Ownership" of the file or folder concerned.

This error may also occur if there is a problem with the configuration of
the network and you are saving to a network drive.

Hope this helps

Hello Joe,

You'll need to initiate a new post -- not continue someone else's -- and
provide full details of your Mac operating system, version of Word and state
of updates, the circumstances in which this occurs and the exact message.

Cheers,
