Can't send via outlook 2003 or outlook express 6, but can send to newsgroups

Hi,

I started this thread a while ago, using the name Mike Hollywood, because
I was on the laptop. I'm on the tower now, and I have the same problem,
but a different name.

I can receive emails, but I can't send them, yet the newsgroup client is
able to send to the newsgroup server. ???

I cancelled Comcast, and got Verizon today. With all the comcast
accounts gone, and new Verizon accounts, it's the same story.
Can receive, but not send. So it wasn't comcast. It's something
here that's peculiar to both email clients, Outlook Express 6 and
Outlook 2003. They worked fine for years.

Any ideas appreciated.

Sending to a news server doesn't use the same method as sending to an
outgoing mail (SMTP) server. Which network/ISP are you connected to when
you're trying to send and whose mail server are you trying to use? If you
try to use one ISPs mail server from another ISPs network, it'll probably
fail.

Thanks for the quick reply.
My ISP is Verizon, dial-up.
Newgroup account: msnews.microsoft.com
No place for incoming/outgoing servers there.

I'm using outlook express 6 now, and
a few minutes ago, I checked the box that says
my isp requires secure login, or something like that,
and I told it to use the sign on stuff, or something like
that (I've changed so many settings so ofter I've lost
track of what they all were and said,) and it worked!

I had tried that in the past with no success, so I'm
still scratching my head here.

That's only a news account not a mail account.

The mail account works too, now.
It works in both IE6 and Outlook 2003.
There's still one hitch, if I launch the email clients, and connect through
them, it disconnects before the send/receive cycle is finished.
If I connect first, and then launch the email clients, they
work perfectly. ???

I think that's a property of the mail account. Check the connection tab to
see if there's a setting for disconnect.
